The invention relates to a device in addition to a corresponding method for treating, i.e. examining, sorting and/or eliminating articles in the form of sheet-like material, especially bank notes, with a treating device (10) which comprises at least one means (13, 14, 41) for generating information on the treatment of an individual sheet (12) of sheet-like articles, and also comprises at least one monitoring device (20) which comprises at least one storage device (21) for storing information on the treatment of the individual sheets (12). The aim of the invention is to improve the monitoring of the treatment of said sheets, especially with respect to noise occurring during the treating process. The treating device (10) comprises at least one means (11) for detecting the identity of the individual sheets (12) of the sheet-like articles, and the storing device (21) associated with the monitoring device (20) is designed to monitor information on the treatment of the individual sheets (12) together with the identity of the individual sheets (12).
