Fabrication of an optical device in an optical substrate containing, in a substrate region, at least one first ionic species (A), comprises: fabrication, on a first face (12) of the substrate, of a diffusion mask (24) with at least one opening above that region; diffusion of a second ionic species into the substrate by putting this first face into contact with a medium (22) containing the second ionic species (B); equally a second face (16) of the substrate opposite the first is put into contact with the medium containing a third ionic species and an electric field is applied between the regions of the medium respectively in contact with the first and second faces. An Independent claim is also included for the utilization of this method for the fabrication of a lens, a Bragg network, or a mirror.
