PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a positive electrode active material for a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery of high thermal stability without sacrificing almost any part of the initial capacity and to provide a method of manufacturing the same. SOLUTION: A main component of a positive electrode active material is a Li-Ni composed oxide represented by LiNi1-x Mx O2 (M is at least one kind of metallic element selected from Co, Mn, Fe, Cu, Zn, Mg, Ti, Al and Ga, and 0.2>x>=0), and further an oxygen absorbing compound is included. The molar ratio of the oxygen absorbing compound to the total of nickel and element M is 2% or less. The oxygen absorbing compound is selected from vanadium compound, indium compound, tinn compound and tantalum compound. |
