PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solid polymer fuel cell with increased power generation efficiency by modifying the surface of a graphite electrode for reducing contact resistance between the electrode and a separator. SOLUTION: In this solid polymer type fuel cell, a graphite oxidation electrode 2 and a fuel electrode 3 arranged on both faces of a solid polymer film 1 are clamped by metallic separators 5. On each of the contact faces in the graphite oxidation electrode and the graphite fuel electrode with the separators, a coating layer of a metal, an alloy, or a compound with specific 1×10<-3> Ω.cm or less electric resistance is formed by evaporation. Contact between the separator and the electrode becomes contact between metal and metal to lower contact resistance between them, and consequently, to reduce weight and costs of the fuel cell. |
