Method of automatic classification of images for indexing, uses vectorial descriptors built on low level image components as classification characteristics

The classification uses an iterative process to produce an optimal regrouping of images into a predetermined number of classes. The images are represented by vectorial descriptors using as characteristics low level components such as color, texture and form of the image. A quadratic distance is used to calculate a distortion criterion included in the iterative process.
