PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a long-life fluorescent lamp and a luminaire using it by improving lumen maintenance factor through the use of an excellent ultraviolet screening action of zinc oxide and through restraint of consumption of mercury caused by reaction of zinc and mercury. SOLUTION: The fluorescent lamp is provided with a translucent airtight vessel 1, a first protective film 2 with zinc oxide as a main ingredient formed on the inside face of the translucent discharge vessel 1, a second protective film 2 with cerium oxide as a main ingredient formed on the inside face of the first protective film 2, a phosphor layer 4 formed on the inside face of the second protective film 3, a pair of cold-cathode electrodes 6, 6 mounted in sealing inside the translucent airtight vessel 1, and a discharge medium including mercury and rare gas sealed in the translucent airtight vessel 1. Zinc oxide and cerium oxide as main constituents of the first and the second protective films 2, 3 are preferably to have particle sizes of 0.005 to 0.01μm and film thicknesses of 1 to 1.5μm. |
