The device has a central body (14) with a cavity (21) containing an inner component. A fitting unit is formed in a case piece (16) to associate with an aperture in the central body. A receiving unit is formed in the inner peripheral surface of the cavity to receive the fitting unit through the aperture. Another cavity of the central body comprises a transponder (34), which is a part of an engine immobiliser system. An Independent claim is also included for a method for assembling a key device.
