1,241,410. Converter hoods. COMBUSTION ENG. Inc. 1 July, 1970 [1 July, 1969], No. 31987/70. Heading F4J. An inclined converter hood 20 is rigidly connected at its upper end. to I-beam 44 of support structure 17 whilst over the remainder of its length self-lubricating bearing surfaces 54 on the underside of the hood simply slide against transverse backing I-beams 52 mounted on one or more longitudinal I-beams 40 of the support structure, to allow for differential expansion and contraction between the hood and the support structure. Welded water tube walls forming part of a forced circulation boiler circuit line the inside of the hood. The hood may be rectangular, octagonal or circular in cross-section, in the latter case (Fig. 6, not shown) the transverse backing I-beams being replaced by short transverse feet contacting the bearing surfaces on the underside of the hood.
|
