A method in which a first boiler is operated as a lead boiler and further boilers are operated as sequence boilers. A cascade control method is used in which the lead boiler is regulated and sequence boilers are switched on and off according to set values. According to the inventive method if a sequence boiler is switched on or off, switching on or off of further boilers is inhibited for a set time, where the set time corresponds to the transient time of the remaining operating boilers.
