The protective device includes a protective circuit arranged between a switch and an electronic device to protect the device during operation of the switch. The device comprises a control circuit (11) connected to the switch (13) and the device (17). The switch is also connected to an external current supply to provide power to the electronic device. A monitor circuit (15) is connected to the switch and to the control circuit and activates the control circuit as a function of the switch position. A battery (16) provides power to the electronic device under control of the control circuit. If the device is suddenly switched on or off the monitor circuit provides a signal which shows activation of the switch on the ON or OFF direction. This signal is fed to the control circuit which then interrupts the connection between the device and the external supply and connects the battery to power the device. The external power supply is reconnected to the device after successful switching on or off of the device.
