Method for isolating DNA in which all steps are done in a single reaction vessel. Method for isolating DNA comprises: (i) treating a biological sample with a lytic reagent (LR); (ii) separating DNA-containing cell components (X); (iii) resuspending (X) in salt solution; (iv) optionally separating contaminants by chemical, thermal and/or enzymatic treatments; (v) precipitating DNA; and (vi) washing, drying and optionally resuspending it in a solution of low salt content. The new feature is that all steps are done in a single reaction vessel.
