PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a character conversion method and a portable terminal capable of inputting different types of characters without switching an input mode and increasing a convenience by reducing the number of key operations by solving such a problem with a conventional character conversion method that the switching of the input mode is troublesome when inputting characters. SOLUTION: When a specific mode is set, a control part 2 holds numerical data inputted by depressing keys, conversion candidates in the input mode corresponding to the numerical data are sequentially displayed each time a conversion key 32 is depressed. If a new conversion candidate is absent even when the conversion key 3 is depressed, the input mode is sequentially switched according to the preset procedure each time the conversion key 3 is depressed to display the conversion candidates corresponding to the numerical data. When a definite operation is performed, the input mode is returned to the specific mode. |
