PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aqueous emulsion composition having a high adhesive strength to a wide variety of materials such as molded products, capable of ensuring sufficient wettability even for an adherend of low surface polarity and exhibiting sufficient adhesiveness performances, having good stability of the emulsion and capable of improving the mechanical stability and storage stability and an adhesive composition comprising the aqueous emulsion. SOLUTION: This aqueous emulsion composition is prepared as follows. At least an ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer or its modified resin is compounded with a photopolymerization initiator and an ethylenically unsaturated monomer and dissolved or dispersed to thereby prepare an oil drop component, which is then emulsified in water with a surfactant. As a result, the aqueous emulsion composition is in a state of micelles encapsulating at least the ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer or its modified resin, photopolymerization initiator and unsaturated ethylenically unsaturated monomer and dispersed in water.
