PURPOSE: A proper volume determining method of a sample for a biosensor device is provided to decide the volume of the biological sample properly to measure the properties of the sample accurately by compensating the volume of the biological sample. CONSTITUTION: A system(50) includes a biosensor(70), a power source(52), a voltage to current converter(54), an analog to digital converter(56), and a microprocessor(58). The volume determining method is provided for determining whether the volume of a biological sample is adequate to produce the accurate electrochemical analyte concentration. The system provides the additional function of compensating for the sample volume determined to be less than adequate in order to proceed with the accurate analyte concentration measurement. The determining method is employed with the biosensor, such as an electrochemical test strip to which the sample volume of biological solution is deposited, and a meter configured to receive such test strip and to measure the concentration of selected analyte within the biological sample.
