The present invention provides pharmaceutical compositions which contain Ophiopogon (TuberOphiopogonis), pinellia (Tuber Pinelliae), raw licorice (Radix Glycyrrhizae), and one of the following herbs: lantern tridax (Herba Tridacis procumbentis), Taiwan adenostema (Herba Adenostematis), or heartleaf houttuynia (Herba houttuyniae). Optionally, a fifth herb, which is either tang-shen (Radix Codonopsitis) or American ginseng (Radix Pancis Quinquefolii), can be added. These pharmaceutical compositons are effective in treating patients with immunological disorders, particularly IgE-mediated diseases, such as asthma, atopic eczema, atopic dematitis, allergic rhinitis and rheumatoid arthritis. The present invention also provides methods for making the pharmaceutical compositions.
