The surgical instrument has a tubular shaft to carry a push rod through it. The proximal end of the shaft (12) has at least one mounting (20,24,25) to lock with at least one mounting (36) at the holder (26), to lock and release the shaft at the holder. A locking bolt (70) prevents any of the mountings from becoming loose accidentally when in the locked position.
