The present invention provides a portable patient turning and lifting device (10) and associated methods for turning and lifting an immobilized patient. The device (10) comprises at least one inflation support bladder (30) configured to be secured between the patient's body (20) and the patient supporting surface (12) such as a bed. The bladder is inflated with pressurized fluid. The inflation bladder (30) is secured by a body support having at least one support pad (16) on which the patient is positioned. An embodiment provides two inflatable turning bladders (30, 32) oriented on the left and right sides of the back of the body support (12). At least one fluid pump system (80) is provided in communication with the bladders (30, 32) and is fitted with a controller (126) to tailor the sequencing and timing of the inflation to reposition the patient's body.
