<p>The invention relates to a method of producing silicon carbide ceramics from plant precursors. According to the invention, wood is used as the plant precursor, said wood being subjected to a first drying phase at 70 °C. If wood prepared for industrial use is being used, the first drying phase lasts for 24 hours, but if recently-cut wood is being used, said phase lasts for 72 hours. The wood is then subjected to a pyrolysis phase at a heating rate of between 0.5 and 2 °C per minute until temperatures above 600 °C are reached, followed by subsequent cooling to a temperature of between 1 and 5 °C. Finally, an infiltration process is carried out with very-pure silicon, said process being performed at a temperature of between 1410 °C and 1600 °C and pressures lower than 10-3Torr.</p> |
