To prepare a cut yarn end (E) for splicing, at an open-end spinner, the yarn end is inserted into an air stream which is aligned at a tangent to it. Initially an air flow is directed at the yarn by a jet (3), outside the length (L) which will be reversed into the spinning zone, followed by an air stream from a jet (2) directed at the cut end with an axial and a tangential flow direction component. The yarn end preparation station (1) has two longitudinal channel sections, where one section (12) takes the yarn end (E) within the holding drilling (11), and the other section (13) has a continuous expansion in a cone angle of 8-10 deg .
