A reproducer for reproducing video data including tracks in the range of reproduction capability. A reproducer (10) for reproducing data from a record medium having tracks on which image data and one or more pieces of edit data are recorded comprises input means (11) for reading data from record medium, analyzing means (12) for identifying the type of recording track on which input data is recorded, storage means (13) for storing priority list in which the type of a track is related to the decoding order and a predetermined threshold for determining upper to what number is reproduced, a plurality of decoding means (15, 16, 17) for decoding data, and judging means (14) for determining whether or not input data is to be decoded from the type of the track from the analyzing means (12) and from the priority list and the predetermined threshold stored in the storage means (13) and outputting, if the input data is determined to be decoded, the data to the decoding means (15, 16, 17) depending on the type of the data.
