A perforated card is dropped through a slot 3 into a chamber 4 which has an array of sensors 25 on one side and a pressure member 8 on the other side, and a manually operated lever 10 is directly connected to a cam 6 for moving the pressure member 8 so as to press the card against the sensors 25. The lever 10 may be in the form of a flap which is depressed when the card is to be sensed and raised when the card is to be withdrawn, the pressure of spring sensors 25 bearing against non-perforated parts of the card urging the card free of those sensors which have passed through perforations. There may be a hole at the bottom of chamber 4 for allowing foreign matter accidentally introduced into the chamber to escape. |
