PURPOSE: An apparatus for driving iris plate of wire rod winding machine is provided to prevent surface defects of wire rod coil and complete smooth wire rod coil production process by always accumulating the wire rod coil in the good shape and maintaining stable balance during dropping of the wire rod coil. CONSTITUTION: In an apparatus for driving iris plate of wire rod winding machine in which a cone(15) for guiding wire rod is ascended by mandrels(10a,10b) when accumulating wire rod in a coil type on the mandrels(10a,10b) in manufacturing process of wire rod coil(214), the apparatus comprises a cylindrical tube(12) which is fixed onto a stopped frame, and the lower part of which is positioned higher compared to the upper part of the mandrels(10a,10b); a driving part comprising a link which is ascended and descended by an operating cylinder(17) mounted on one side of the cylindrical tube(12); and an iris plate(40) one side of which is connected to the lower part of the link, the other side of which is extended to the lower inner side of the tube(12) to ascend or descend the cone(15), and the middle part of which is rotationally mounted on the tube(12), wherein the iris plate(40) vertically ascends or descends the cone(15) inside the tube(12) so as to detach the cone(15) from the upper part of the mandrels(10a,10b) and guide the wire rod coil(214) to the mandrels(10a,10b).
