PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a retrieving method and a retrieving device capable of retrieving users surely answerable to an inquiry on the basis of a retrieval request from the respective users of a plurality of terminal units connected to a network by accepting the retrieval request for retrieving the users answerable to the inquiry from the users. SOLUTION: The users related to a field corresponding to the content of the inquiry are extracted on the basis of a common document of a plurality users and profile information including at least a special field of the plurality of users, and compatibility with the retrieval request is determined to the respective extracted users on the basis of a degree of an interchange with the users of respective retrieval requesters of the extracted users estimated as a result of analyzing a communication history when communicating via at least the network and respective present states of the extracted users, and users selected on the basis of this compatibility are presented to the users of the retrieval requesters.
