<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To process a variable length code string subjected to depacking processing as repetition of fixed length processing so as to reduce a memory access frequency while saving memory areas. SOLUTION: The coded image data decoder applies depacking and variable length decoding to image data that is packed with an image companding format where the sum of the length of components in one block other than variable code components and the length of a termination code has a bit length obtained by subtracting one-bit from number of bits of a maximum length of a variable length code word or more, a decode means applies variable length decoding to the code string outputted from a memory means storing the code string by one video segment, a block storage means inserted between the memory means and the decode means stores the code string by one block and stores a code string by different patterns connected thereto, after a depacking means completes the code string by one block by properly combining required parts in the code string sequentially supplied from the memory means and decodes the completed code string when the code string supplied from the memory means is not the code string by one block.</p> |
