PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the erroneous discrimination of an optical disk caused by characteristic fluctuation due to the temperature of an optical pickup in the case of use at a high temperature or a low temperature, especially on vehicle. SOLUTION: The optical disk discrimination device for discriminating the kind of an optical disk based on the reflectance of the information recording surface of an optical disk and/or a predetermined value corresponding to a distance from the surface of the optical disk to the information recording surface is provided with an optical pickup used for optical disk recording/ reproducing, a temperature detecting means for detecting the temperature of the optical pickup or its vicinity, a threshold storing means where the threshold value corresponding to the temperature of the optical pickup or its vicinity is previously stored, and a control means for reading a threshold value corresponding to the output of the temperature detecting means, and discriminating the kind of the optical disk based on the read threshold value.
