PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To quicken γ conversion in image processing while reducing the volume of data and the memory capacity being prepared therefor, and to facilitate alteration and correction of γ conversion characteristics. SOLUTION: The γ conversion processor comprises an SIMD processor 33 having a plurality of processor elements PE executing processing of a plurality of data with one instruction according to a program RAM 36 and its program thus processing the multilevel halftone color image data of a plurality of pixels simultaneously in parallel, and a controller 106 for writing an interpolation program for performing γ conversion of the multilevel halftone color image data of a plurality of pixels simultaneously in parallel, based on boundary values x1-x7 for subdividing the range of γconversion (fig. 13) into a plurality of sections and parameters a1-a8 and b1-b8 for defining the interpolation of each section by linear approximation, into the RAM 36. A color scanner SCR, a color printer PTR and a color composite function copy machine incorporating it are also provided. |
