PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To permit the setting of the color conversion characteristics of an image forming device easily and surely. SOLUTION: In the embodiment of a color conversion characteristics setting device 2, a reference chart 40 with color measurement value obtained previously is read by an image scanner 8 to obtain the color conversion characteristics of the image scanner 8. Then, reference image data outputted by reading the color of the test chart formed actually by a printer 6 is converted based on the obtained color conversion characteristics. According to this conversion, the influence of color conversion characteristics of the image scanner 8 is removed from the data after conversion (or a reference image data whose conversion is finished), whereby the color conversion characteristics of the printer 6 can surely be obtained by comparing the image data whose conversion is finished already with a test data.
