PURPOSE: A shock absorber of a hood hinge unit in a vehicle is provided to protect a pedestrian by minimizing impact and to drop a hood downward while bumping the pedestrian into a hood. CONSTITUTION: A shock absorber of a hood hinge unit for a vehicle comprises a hinge mounting plate(30) rotationally installed on an upper inner portion of a fender apron; a hood hinge(10) mounted on an upper portion of the hinge mounting plate; a groove(22) penetrating a chassis frame(20); a rotary supporting member installed on a front end of the groove; a rotational shaft arranged on the rotary supporting member; an extension protrusion(32) formed on a rear portion of the hinge mounting plate; a gas lifter supporting the hinge mounting plate; a rod mounted on the gas lifter; a body mounted on a chassis frame; a sliding plate(60) protruded on an upper portion of the chassis frame; a guide(14) integrally formed with a lower hinge arm(12) of the hood hinge; a lack gear(66) formed on an upper end of the sliding plate; a pinion gear(18) engaged with the lack gear; and a rear hinge arm(19) rotationally mounting the pinion gear on the lower hinge arm.
