In order to control a phased array antenna system (ANT), a Butler matrix (BM) connects upstream from the phased array antenna system in such a way that a subscriber signal (TN1-TN3) is linked to just one input in the Butler matrix in order to produce a principal radiation diagram and to just two adjacent inputs in the Butler matrix in order to produce a secondary radiation diagram.
