<p>A combined vacuum relief and pressure containing valve assembly (110) for relieving vacuum developing within an associated vessel and for containing elevated pressures developing within the vessel. The valve assembly has a housing (102,104) having two communicating passageways (114A, 114B) demarcated by a valve seat(106). The first passageway (114A) communicates to the open atmosphere and also with the valve (120) from below the valve seat(106). The second passageway (114B) communicates with the valve (120) from above the valve seat (106). The second passageway (114B) extends below the valve (120) so that when the valve assembly is connected to the associated vessel, pressures prevailing within the vessel act on the valve (120) from above. Vacuum prevailing within thevessel, together with relatively higher ambient pressures, will draw the valve (120) into an open configuration. An O-ring (108) is provided to improve the seal.</p> |
