A joining agent for a metal or a ceramic which comprises 0.25 wt % to 18.0 wt % of a Mg powder, 25 wt % to 50 wt % of a solvent having a molecular structure containing a hydroxyl group and the balanced amount of an AlN powder. The components of the joining agent react with one another when mixed and allowed to be present under a specific condition and generate a great amount of heat of reaction, which leads to the thermal destruction of a firm oxide film which when a base material or a part to be joined is of an aluminum alloy, is frequently formed on the surface thereof and interferes with the joining between them.
