OPTICAL TRANSMISSION SYSTEM COMPRISING DISPERSION MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

An optical transmission system comprising optical fibres having chromatic dispersion of alternate sign arranged in an optical path OL in accordance with a dispertion map appropriate for the transmission of dispertion managed solitons at a wavelength lambdc. The transmission system comprises a transmission station 2 and a receiver station 3 connected to the said optical path. The transmission station launches at least a first optical pulse RZ of wavelength lambd1 which is different from lambdc on the said optical path. At least one wavelength conversion device 6 such as a phase conjugation device located along the said optical path alters the wavelength of the said first pulse of wavelength lambd1 in such a way as to obtain a second pulse of wavelength lambd2, such that lambd2 is on the opposite side from lambd1 with respect to lambdc.
