A disc type recording/reproduction apparatus in which a travel distance of a tray moving a disc−shaped recording medium between a drawn position and a recording/reproduction position is increased and the dimension of the tray in the travel direction is reduced. The tray can be drawn from and contained in an external casing (10) so as to move the disc−shaped recording medium between the drawn position and the recording/reproduction position. A drive portion (47) is integrally formed with the tray (13). The drive portion (47) has an output end composed of a pinion (56) rotated on a rack (24) of a chucking slider (20), thereby moving the tray (13). After the tray (13) has moved to the recording/reproduction position completely, the chucking slider (20) is moved in the drawing direction of the tray (13) by utilizing the output of the drive portion (47) of the tray (13), so that a cam mechanism (23) provided in the chucking slider (20) lifts a base unit (30).
