PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transparent composite sheet excellent in transparency, resistance to liquid crystals, and thermal resistance and having a low linear expansion coefficient, and to provide a substrate for a liquid crystal display element, especially for a thin-film transistor display element (TFT liquid crystal display board). SOLUTION: The transparent composite sheet is characterized by comprising an organic polymer compound (a) containing an alkoxysilyl group and a silica microparticle (b) having an average particle diameter of 1 to 100 nm. Preferably the sheet further comprises metal alkoxides and/or metal diketonates (c) containing at least one kind of metal(s) having an electronegativityχi of <=13.
