PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve display quality by preventing the sharpness of display and display contrast from decreasing even when an image of high resolution is displayed. SOLUTION: An image display medium has a display substrate having a 1st electrode arranged on an image display surface side, a back substrate which faces the display substrate and has a 2nd electrode composed of a plurality of electrodes arrayed on the same plane at specific mutual intervals, and at least two kinds of particle groups with different colors and electrostatic charging characteristics which are sealed between the display substrate and the back substrate and can move between the 1st electrode and 2nd electrode with an electric field produced between the 1st and 2nd electrodes. Before a voltage applying means applies a display driving voltage for image display to the image display medium, a voltage is so applied between adjacent electrodes of the 2nd electrode as to produce an electric field allowing the particle groups to move.
