PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printing unit capable of improving the security of the user at the time a user opens a cover, and allowing efficient execution of a maintenance work by a user. SOLUTION: The printing unit comprises a printing head having an ink ejecting nozzle, a paper conveying part for conveying a paper in a predetermined direction, a moving part for reciprocally moving the printing head on a track disposed in the direction orthogonal to the paper conveying direction, a maintenance part facing the nozzle for executing a maintenance process, a case for storing the above-mentioned parts, a cover mounted on the case switchably, a detecting part for detecting the opening or closing state of the cover, and a control unit for controlling the drive of the moving part and the maintenance part based on a detection signal obtained from the detecting part. The maintenance part comprises two maintenance stations disposed each on both ends of the track, and the control unit stops the printing head to be moved to a maintenance station at a preset stopping position on the track based on an open state detection signal advising that the cover is open. |
