PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an intermetallic compound in which a large number of nanopores are uniformly dispersed and which has hitherto been impossible to obtain by the conventional technology and also to provide a manufacturing method therefor. SOLUTION: A molten alloy is rapidly solidified by the rapid solidification technique, such as single-roller or double-roller melt-spinning method. The resultant rapidly solidified alloy is heat-treated for about 24 hours in a chamber filled with vacuum atmosphere of about 10<-4> Pa and about 425 deg.C to subject thermal vacancies freezed in the alloy to clustering by the heat treatment. By this method, the intermetallic compound having fine nanometer-size pores can be obtained.
