PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent troubles, caused by errors in cutting a thread, through detecting errors in cutting a thread by a thread trimmer accurately, and to obtain a structure for the prevention easily and inexpensively. SOLUTION: A multihead embroidery machine has a function to switch a needle bar automatically and is equipped with a thread breakage sensor to detect a thread breakage based on the consumption of a needle thread and a thread trimmer to cut the needle thread and a bobbin thread automatically on a thread tension regulator. A thread wiper to pull tip the needle thread connected to a sewing needle onto a needle plate is also equipped. After the motion (S1, S3) of cutting the thread by the thread trimmer, a controlling device monitors output from the thread breakage sensor each time, at the returning of a wiper of the thread wiper (S4), the motion of drawing a thread (S6), the motion of switching the needle bar (S9), and the movement of an embroidery hoop after cutting the thread (S11), and judges that there is an error in cutting the thread in case the needle thread is consumed (S5, S7, S10, S12).
