PURPOSE: A reverse speed change gear of a manual transmission is provided to prevent a rattling noise of a gear caused by a backlash of the gear when a reverse idler gear idles. CONSTITUTION: A reverse speed change gear of a manual transmission includes a reverse speed gear, mounted to an input shaft of the transmission; a reverse idler gear(2), engaged with the reverse speed gear; a reverse output gear, engaged with the reverse idler gear and fixed to an output shaft; an idler shaft(4) rotatably supporting the reverse idler gear; and a rattling noise-preventing unit. The rattling noise-preventing unit makes gear backlash between the reverse idler gear and the matching gear just incase of reverse speed change. Great pitch diameter of the reverse idler gear is formed, to prevent backlash between the reverse idler gear and the engaging gear. Retainers(15), supporting the idler shaft, are disposed on both sides of the idler shaft. Rubber packing(19) is inserted between the idler shaft and the retainer. Accordingly, a rattling noise is prevented.
