PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hemodialyzer that can calculate an initial blood volume BV0 and a target BV% by utilizing the BV0 and, in addition, can safely, surely, and readily perform dialyzing operation based on the target BV%. SOLUTION: This hemodialyzer which controls dialyzing conditions based on an index blood value can be made to only perform extracorporeal circulation without performing water removal, to continue the extracorporeal circulation until a blood volume is stabilized, and, when the blood volume is stabilized, to start dialysis accompanying water removal. Then the hemodialyzer can be made to perform water removal at a fixed water removing speed A within a fixed period of time, to calculate %ΔBV1 which is the rate of change of the blood volume, and to perform water removal at a water removing speed B which is different from the speed A within the same period of time. Thereafter, this hemodialyzer can be made to calculate the %ΔBV2 which is the rate of change of the blood volume caused by the water removal and to calculate the initial blood value BV of each patient by utilizing the %ΔBV1 and %ΔBV2 and water removing speeds A and B.
