PURPOSE: Provided are novel, water soluble, gelatin-free compositions for dip coating substrates, such as tablets and capsules, and methods for producing such tablets and capsules. CONSTITUTION: A film forming composition comprised of: (a) carrageenan and (b) sucralose, wherein the composition is substantially free of a film former or strengthening polymer. It is comprised of, based upon the total dry weight of the composition, (a) from 0.5 percent to 20 percent of carrageenan; and (b) from 75 percent to 99.5 percent of sucralose, preferably (a) from 5 percent to 9 percent of carrageenan; and (b) from 83 percent to 95 percent of sucralose.
