PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide radio equipment for applying automatic gain control (AGC) to a signal from mobile terminal equipment at an optimal gain convergence speed and a gain control method for making proper the gain convergence speed of AGC. SOLUTION: The phasing speed of the mobile terminal equipment is estimated by a phasing speed estimating device 10 and corresponding to that estimated phasing speed, an optimal step constant is determined by a step constant decider 11. By feeding this step constant back to a feedback data calculator 7, a receiving level can be converged to a target level even under a phasing environment or the like.
