PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sealed lead acid battery of long life in service condition in order to solve the problem of sharply decreasing life, which is caused by being used in not fully charged state, i.e., in a half charged state and exerting large energy input-output by the use of a highly efficient current, by enhance ment of energy density, and to provide a method of using the same. SOLUTION: In the sealed lead-acid storage battery, mass of positive electrode active material is 9×10<5> g/cm<3> or more per unit volume in apparent volume occupied by a positive electrode plate, a negative electrode plate and a separator in a cell. Furthermore, the ratio of the longitudinal width to the lateral width in the positive electrode plate and the negative electrode plate of the battery is 3 or less, and it is charged and/or discharged by the use of a current of 3 CA or more.
