PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which has an automatic document feeder and can start reading without switching back even in a mixed document loading mode. SOLUTION: When a leading edge of a document P, conveyed by an automatic document feeder 100, reaches an image reader 119, even if the rear edge of the document P does not reach a document size detecting means 107 and the document size is not yet detected, the image reader 119 starts reading a document image. A page memory 222 assumes the read image data as a maximum document size and makes assumed page data. When the rear edge of the document reaches the document size detecting means 107 and detects the document size, the page memory 222 compresses the assumed page data into page data with a prescribed size. |
