PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a perpendicular magnetic recording medium that can be made thin and has a corrosion resistant soft magnetic lining and also can record information in a high density, and its manufacturing method. SOLUTION: The perpendicular recording medium of this invention has a soft magnetic lining 12 and the main recording layer formed on the lining 12. The easy magnetization axis of the recording layer 13 is arranged mostly perpendicular to the film surface. This perpendicular magnetic recording medium is featured in that it consists of a soft magnetic material that has the above soft magnetic lining 1 composed of FeTa. And its manufacturing method is provided.
