PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for producing a hydrogenated cyclic olefin ring- opened polymer by using a new ruthenium complex compound, and a hydrogenated dicyclopentadiene ring-opened polymer excellent in heat resistance. SOLUTION: The process for producing a hydrogenated cyclic olefin ring- opened polymer is characterized in that a cyclic olefin is subjected to ring- opening metathesis polymerization by using a ruthenium complex compound wherein a heteroatom-containing carbene compound having a six-membered structure is bonded to ruthenium, and the carbon - carbon double bond in the obtained polymer is then hydrogenated. The hydrogenated dicyclopentadiene ring-opened polymer has a weight-average molecular weight in terms of polystyrene, determined by the gel permeated chromatography of 1,000 to 500,000, an iodine value of 20 or lower, and a glass transition temperature determined by the differential scanning calorimeter of 100 deg.C or higher.
