Lifting device has swivel axis orthogonal to longitudinal direction of vehicle. Its swing arm (5) located at rear of vehicle has gripper (6) with movable claw connected to hydraulic cylinder to open and close gripper. Gripper has both claws forming upwards directed grip opening in operating position to grip around lugs which are located near support level (7) of container (4). In shutting position gripper holds onto gripping lugs of container.
