Cylinder identification device for multicylinder internal combustion engine

A cylinder identification signal (SC) is produced by a first generator (1) in synchronism with rotation of the camshaft. A second generator (4) gives a train of pulses (P) corresp. to two predetermined crankshaft positions for each cylinder. A reference position signal (ST) is produced (2) in the form of a sequence of pulses each denoting exactly the predetermined crankshaft position for each cylinder. An identification circuit (2A) within the reference signal source (2) indicates (C) to which cylinder each pulse of the reference position signal (ST) pertains.
