PURPOSE: A method for preparing a rubber latex and an ABS resin obtained by using the rubber latex are provided, to obtain a rubber latex having a large particle diameter and a small distribution of diameter and a synthetic resin having an excellent impact resistance. CONSTITUTION: The method comprises the steps of reacting 40-90 parts by weight of an aliphatic conjugated diene monomer or a mixture of an aliphatic conjugated diene monomer and an ethylenically unsaturated monomer; adding 10-60 parts by weight (the rest) of the monomers and reacting them when the gel content of the latex reaches 5-70 %, to prepare a small caliber rubber latex by emulsion polymerization; and melt welding the small caliber rubber latex in acidic condition to prepare a large caliber rubber latex by emulsion polymerization. Preferably the aliphatic conjugated diene monomer is at least one selected from the group consisting of 1,3-butadiene, isoprene, chloroprene and piperylene; the ethylenically unsaturated monomer is selected from the group consisting of an aromatic vinyl compound, an acrylate, a methacrylate and a vinyl cyano compound; and the melt welding is carried out by using phosphoric aid or acetic acid.
