PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a receiver and a receiving method capable of estimating a transmission path even though a state of the transmission path fluctuates and receiving a transmitted signal by stably controlling not only FFT timing but also an AGC (automatic gain control). SOLUTION: This receiver is provided with a burst detecting means 4 for detecting a data symbol of a burst cycle from a received signal and also measuring the intensity of the received signal, a gain controlling means 6 for amplifying the received signal from the level of the detected received signal with a gain control amplifying means 1 to be a prescribed level, also holding an amplification gain ever period from a reference symbol to the next reference symbol and updating the amplification gain at prescribed update timing, and a timing controlling means 5 for generating update timing for updating the amplification gain for the gain controlling means 6 so as to be a positive integer multiple of a reference symbol.
